Welcome to Day One of My Blogtober!
Because I’m a free spirit and can’t be bound by your foolish rules >:-)…
… just kidding.
To be frank… I really, really SUCK at sticking with holiday themes…
… and I’m a procrastinator… with the attention span of a gnat.
So, today, instead of the inevitable pumpkin spice & candy post that most lifestyle bloggers will be putting out (no tea, no shade), I figured I’d elaborate on my post from yesterday.
(You may wanna check that one out first for context).
Don’t worry, it’s positive!
Yesterday’s post got a little… angry in places. So, this post will be a little bit of a pick-me-up.
Here’s a little something for you to contemplate before bed <3 .
Don’t Give Up Hope!
… a word that tastes bitter in the mouths of U.S. citizens right now.
Why on Earth would someone want to ‘remain hopeful’ when they’re watching their house burn down?
I’ll tell you why.
We’ve Been Here Before
Sounds messed up when it’s put that way, but it’s true.
I met up with my therapist over coffee to discuss who I am vs. who I want to be (vs. who I think I should be).
About halfway through, we settled on this: I’m a compassionate, deep-thinking individual who would like to make a difference.
By inspiring others to take their personal power back.
But not in the way you might think.
We’re Pressured to Fight with Anger
Politics have become less about core values and more about “teams”. Each team has a list of ideals; they’re going to draw a line in the sand and you’ve got to choose which side you’re on.
I don’t know, maybe it’s always been this way. But the point is you can’t stand on the line or go anywhere near it, lest you alienate your “team”.
Now, don’t get me wrong… there are some boundaries you just don’t cross. At that point, it’s no longer a difference of opinion but a difference of moral codes.
So, am I angry? Hell yeah. Lots of people are and they have a right to be.
But we don’t want to stay in that place forever.
Anger that doesn’t fuel progress or change turns into bitterness. It helps no one; not us, and not future generations.
So, I’ll use my anger as fuel on my self-improvement fire. I’ll prove to myself and others that my life is in no one else’s hands but my own. And that I won’t be kept down.
I hope that by sharing my journey, I can inspire others to do the same.
Society Pushes Certain People Down. We Respond by Pushing Back
There’s no question that society has a bad habit of othering certain groups. We’re pushed into little communities where we only have support from each other…
… or do we?
At some point, we realize that we’ve been given a raw deal and we don’t have to take it.
We fight back.
It’s a messy, messy fuckin’ fight. Some fights are more devastating than others.
But if history has anything to say about it, we ain’t been had yet. Women went from being glorified servants (yikes) to having the right to vote, work, and own land; slaves went from being property to being citizens; LGBTQ+ community members went from having no marital rights to being allowed to marry in 50 states.
Now, there’s no denying that a lot of this could be in jeopardy. A scary thought, considering we had work to do before our current situation.
But we’ve done it before and we’ll do it again.
We shall overcome.
And that’s why I refuse to lose hope.
